Northern Copperhead, the camouflage is near perfect for this situation.
It was in a crack in the boulders and took most of the hikers a good 20 seconds or so before they could make out the snake from the leaves.
Because of the camera's flash, these photos do no justice to how well it was hidden, but you can get a rough idea.

Eastern diamondback rattlesnake. This guy was looking to get away from us and dissapeared while we were showing some other hikers the Copperhead.
