I've done the Philadelphia Marathon (26.2miles) the past three years. Hopefully, unlike 2005, I will be picked in the lottery for NYC Marathon next year and will be motivated to train a little for it.
Yes, 4h5min is below par. But:
-Chip Time: 4h3min
-Training Time: Nov 1-16
-Race Day: Nov 20
-Traning Runs: 10 (9 runs of 4.5miles, 1 jog of 8.5miles)
-I was actually on pace to finish about 3h50min for all but one mile (mile 21, approx 19min split) when my hamstrings locked up and I couldnt walk. After struggling to at least walk fast for awhile I realized there was no way I could endure this kind of pain for another 6miles (75min+) and hobbled off the street just past the stream leaving Manayunk. There I laid on my back hugging my knees several minutes. Miraculously that allowed me to finish the race at close to my previous pace (I still can't believe they didnt lock up again).
Conclusion: I'm a bum for not training properly.
